Due to Shield’s extensive knowledge of dry cleaning operations, we were retained to provide expert witness testimony regarding the likelihood of the alleged cause of the release. Shield documented subsurface conditions through extensive subsurface investigation. Our investigation determined that the most likely source of the release was from disposal of PCE-contaminated materials in an on site dumpster.
Shield’s rapid mobilization to the site and off-peak scheduling of investigation activities enabled data to be collected without disruption to the existing dry cleaning operations or further “stigma damage” to the shopping center. Our understanding of chlorinated solvent behavior enabled the client to avoid extensive litigation and penalties. The plaintiff was awarded no damages as the result of our findings documentation.
