Dry Cleaning Best Management Practices

Shield's Mr. Greg Icenhour serves as the National Director for Shield's Dry Cleaning Services Practice.  Mr. Icenhour, a Certified Environmental Dry Cleaner (CED), leads the only environmental consulting firm in the United States with a national dry cleaning services program headed by a CED.  The CED designation is attained only through direct dry cleaning experience and examination by the Drycleaning & Laundry Institute.

Shield was selected by the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources (NCDENR) to serve as one of the first State Lead Contractors for the Dry Cleaning Solvent Clean-up Act (DSCA) Program.  Shield was selected based on extensive dry cleaning solvent experience, industry knowledge and support from the legal and dry cleaning community.  Shield was selected from a field of 31 regional and national consulting firms for this program.

Mr. Icenhour has 12 years of direct dry cleaning experience. Utilizing Mr. Icenhour's experience, Shield is a recognized leader in understanding solvent and chemical usage, equipment, and historical practices in the dry cleaning industry.  Mr. Icenhour leads a staff of other Shield professionals trained in understanding dry cleaning solvents and operational practices.

Shield has completed multi-site, multi-state assessments for corporations, private entities and law firms.  Shield has also provided expert-witness testimony in law suits involving dry cleaning contamination.

With experience at over 70 dry cleaning sites and growing, Shield has developed an unparalleled reputation for expertise and integrity in solving dry cleaning contamination issues.

As the result of several environmental investigations, a national formal wear provider asked Shield to develop and implement multi-site Environmental Management Plans (EMPs).  These plans were developed utilizing site-specific information and Shield’s state-of-the-industry, Best Management Practices (BMPs) which were subsequently used for North Carolina’s Dry Cleaning Solvent Clean-up Act Minimum Management Practices (MMPs) development. Upon completion of the EMPs, national training for the company's Site Managers was conducted by Shield at the company’s headquarters.

Shield’s reputation as the leading national provider of common-sense solutions to the dry cleaning industry and state-of-the-industry EMP development enabled the client to mitigate future environmental risk from on-going operations.  Shield’s training and implementation services established consistent practices throughout the company’s multi-state operations and serves as a baseline for ongoing environmental compliance.
