Sinkholes can be very dangerous and often happen without warning. Here are five things you should know about sinkholes.
The project consisted of constructing an oil containment system surrounding five (5) transformer pads on the downstream side of hydroelectric dam to collect and transport oil to an oil-water separator in the event of a spill. Shield’s involvement in the project included part time quality assurance inspections for the owner during construction. Due to the inaccessibility of the portion of the system on the downstream side of the dam post construction, Shield had to pay particular attention to painting and galvanizing of structural steel elements to help ensure that the intended service life is met. Shield’s roll also included reinforced concrete inspections and field testing of light weight concrete, structural steel inspections including bolting and anchorage to existing structures, piping inspections and soils and foundation inspections and testing.
Shield’s multi-disciplined Geotechnical department provided the client with a variety of construction quality assurance inspection and testing services. In doing so the client was spared the burden of hiring multiple consultants and was provided a start-to-finish service.
