Residential Site Development

Shield assisted a national residential land developer with civil site design services for a 963 acre, 400 lot Planned Unit Development on the Albemarle Sound in eastern North Carolina. The development consisted of predominantly flat, sandy clay soils with shallow groundwater and numerous delineated wetland areas. Shield prepared the required clearing and grubbing, erosion and sedimentation control and storm water management plans including preliminary plat and final plat submittal information for jurisdictional approval. Shield engineered over 6 miles of subdivision streets meeting North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) minimum standards, a water distribution consisting of 53,000 linear feet of water mains and lateral lines, a vacuum sewer collection system serving 400 residences and common use areas, and a wastewater treatment facility consisting of membrane bioreactors and high-rate infiltration basins producing reuse quality effluent. In addition, Shield prepared and obtained permits with the NCDOT for the subdivision entrances and encroachment agreements for water and sewer force mains.
