Geotechnical engineering considers the engineering properties and characteristics of soils and the underlying bedrock. Significant variations in subsurface conditions can occur in short distances and investigation information is intended to be representative of important site conditions. However, engineering experience and judgment are critical to the proper interpretation of data and the proper characterization of a site. Shield employs personnel with the knowledge, training, and experience to provide competent explanations of the subsurface conditions and how the conditions will interact with the proposed construction. Shield will utilize this site-specific information to give recommendations for a geotechnical design which are reasonable and economical for the particular project. When appropriate, we encourage discussions regarding alternative design options along with their associated benefits and risks. Our goal is to provide responsive, timely engineering solutions for a reasonable fee.
Shield’s geotechnical services include:
- Site exploration, characterization, and evaluations
- Analysis of geologic hazards
- In situ and laboratory testing
- Development of design parameters and foundation earthwork recommendations
- Recommendations for design of retaining structures, earth dams, and embankments
- Hillside stability analysis
- Sinkhole assessment
