Shield performs site selection studies for proposed landfill facilities to identify potential conflicts with regulatory criteria and existing environmental liabilities. Our review can include evaluation of conditions that affect permitting, construction, and operating costs; and local issues such as access routes, zoning, public opposition, and leachate disposal. Hydrogeologic and soils characterizations are performed to support permitting and design.

Landfill Consulting Services

Shield provides consulting services for the management and disposal of a broad range of wastes, including municipal, construction & demolition, residual, utility, hazardous, and coal or ash refuse. Shield provides a full range of services including evaluations to support site selection; hydrogeologic assessment and remediation; design; permitting; construction specifications and drawings; construction monitoring and quality assurance; and operation, closure, and post-closure monitoring.

Shield works closely with clients to realize the ultimate goal of any facility permitting project - the receipt of the necessary permit. Our designs are prepared to satisfy regulatory requirements and owner/operator preferences. In addition to the design of new facilities, Shield also develops innovative approaches to increase available air space, to extend operating life, and to address such operating concerns as internal slope stability, leachate collection, and overlay liner systems. Shield has prepared and received approvals for waste facility designs reviewed by local, state, and federal regulatory agencies. We maintain open, productive relationships with regulatory agencies to facilitate communication and streamline the permitting process.
